1/5 (Wed) - 1/6 (Thu) Interveiw with Makoto Iokibe sensei / Defoe 1722 / Clover

1/5 (Wed)

I took an online Berlitz class in the morning.

—memo—

mean) having a part in something / actively participating in something

example) She was involved in a lawsuit. / I'm mostly involved in promoting products.

After that, I revised chapter 1. I added Iokibe(2016) as key literature and wrote about the multi-crisis viewpoint.

Then, in the night, I had an online interview with Dr. Makoto Iokibe. He talked about his burden when he was President of the National Defense Academy (Toshio Tamogami's problem and intimidation from nationalists), how he started his career by researching leadership in crises (the failure of prime minister Reijiro Wakatsuki to confirm the Kwantung Army's invasion represented by Kanji Ishiwara), his memories of Professor Reischauer (his efforts to improve the deteriorating relationship between Japan and the US during "Japan as Number One" era, his relationship with Prime Minister Ohira, etc.).

I asked about the reconstruction tax that he stated and realized. He explained the complex issue in detail, and I felt that I need to think about this again. At last, he talked about the necessity of the Disaster Management Agency of Japan.

I think this is one of the best remarkable moments during my visiting research. I was so excited that I had a hard time sleeping at late night.

1/6 (Thu)
I woke up late, then paid the rent of my apartment. I went to Widner reading room and scanned Daniel Defoe's "A Journal of the Plague Year: Being Observations or Memorials, Of the most Remarkable Occurrences, As well Publick as Private, which happened in London During the last Great Visitation In 1665." I bought dinner at Clover Food Lab, but gained a little weight the next morning.
